Palmwood is one of the most unique and striking materials among petrified woods. Finding it in large, high quality pieces that will produce a 5.5 inch point like this is rare indeed. This dogleg-notched point was knapped across the natural grain of what used to be the palm trunk. The unusual dot pattern you see is from the vascular bundle within, that transported water and nutrients up the trunk of this ancient palm tree.
